How to Cultivate an Authentic Work Network

When I worked for an E-Industry company, in an office setting, I can recall the vast amount of times I had to participate in interacting with my colleagues outside company-lead events or activities in order to integrate with the other companies teams. Little do they realize, that co-workers are often unhappy into being pressured to socially communication during their work day. This makes me include that, there is not only the need of collaboration between coworkers but also in terms of effective Networking.

I understand that companies tend to continuously look for ways to improve collaboration from different angles. However, I’ve always wondered if that is really necessary, mainly in the days that we felt disconnected.

The most interesting aspect of this, is that you notice you have more communication using chatting tools such as ‘Slack’, than at a face-to-face level. I believe we are more willing to be authentic when it is practical. In other hands, there are some people who are really stuck on social interaction.

People who work from home are often looking for social interaction proactively, and they may begin to lose some of their social skills. So then, how can we improve works without pushing them?

  • Food can bring people together
  • Figure out similar interests
  • Share your knowledge
  • Support others
  • Be sincere but kind

In both cases, for those who work from home or in an office, developing common interests help us break the ice, leading us to be more natural and authentic.
